Documentary Feature Series "Discover New Africa" Debuts Globally on November 7
Beijing, China, November 8, 2026 -- Against the backdrop of China-Africa cooperation moving toward high-quality development and Chinese enterprises accelerating their overseas expansion, Phoenix TV's international event brand "Phoenix Go Glocal" has officially expanded its service footprint to the African continent, launching the China-Africa industrial international communication project "Discover New Africa". The project aims to present the real Africa through an objective perspective, build a China-Africa government-business dialogue platform, and provide robust communication and resource support for Chinese enterprises' overseas expansion. As one of the core contents of the project, the documentary feature series "Discover New Africa" will premiere globally on November 7 across the Phoenix Chinese Channel, Phoenix Hong Kong Channel, European Channel, and North American Channel.
"Discover New Africa" encompasses a diverse suite of media products, including documentary feature series, high-end executive interviews, and global expansion salons. The project team ventures into key African countries and industrial parks to objectively document Chinese enterprises' local manufacturing, technological applications, and market expansion efforts. Concurrently, the team conducts in-depth interviews with high-level guests—such as heads of Chinese enterprises in Africa, business leaders, and representatives from local African governments and industry bodies—to strengthen corporate voice and brand influence in the region. Beyond the camera, building on successful experiences in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, the project establishes government-business dialogue platforms by hosting global expansion salons to foster closer links between Chinese enterprises and African political and business leaders.
The travel documentary feature series "Discover New Africa" has a total runtime of 26 minutes, breaking conventional perceptions with a fresh perspective as it delves deep into the heart of Tanzania in East Africa. Spanning four core regions—Zanzibar, Arusha, Serengeti, and Dar es Salaam—the lens captures everything from the bustling logistics of island ports to the ecological canvas of the vast grasslands, panoramically recording how Chinese builders are transitioning from single engineering project delivery to long-term operations and local cultural integration. At the intersection of historical tradition and future vision, the series rediscovers a progressive, vibrant, and authentic Africa.
During the 10-day on-site filming, the crew engaged in a dialogue with Hamza Hassan Juma, Minister of State, Second Vice President's Office—Policy, Coordination and House of Representatives of Zanzibar, recording the true journey of island development; focused on the ecological wisdom applied by Chinese builders behind the rustic luxury hotel in the Serengeti; captured the bright smiles of local students in the Arusha Stadium; presented the construction landscape of the landmark building Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam; and stepped into the early morning fish market to record a meal prepared by a Chinese chef from CRJE (East Africa) Ltd. for the staff. These vivid documentary details concretely showcase the solid footprint of Chinese enterprises deeply cultivating and integrating locally.
As an important component of the "Discover New Africa" project and the first on-ground event in Africa for "Phoenix Go Glocal", the "Discover New Africa, Explore New Opportunities" Phoenix Global Development Forum for Enterprises was successfully held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on October 3. Co-hosted by Phoenix TV and the Chinese Enterprises Association (Tanzania), the forum brought together representatives from the governments, business, finance, and academic sectors of China and Tanzania to jointly discuss new trends in China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.
H.E. Chen Mingjian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China in the United Republic of Tanzania, mentioned in her remarks that in 2025, bilateral trade between China and Tanzania reached USD 11.28 billion, and China's fully implemented zero-tariff policy is accelerating Chinese enterprises' investment in local factories and technology transfer in Tanzania. Chinese enterprises have created over 150,000 direct local jobs, with local employees accounting for more than 85%.
